2018’s Goodreads Choice Awards rules and guidelines
Eligible books must have a U.S. release between November 16th, 2017 and November 15th, 2018. The Opening Round of voting began on October 30th and ran through November 4th. The 15 book nominees for each category were determined by Goodreads user popularity during the eligible time period for the 2018 vote. The Opening Round also offered voters the chance to submit write-in candidates for each category. The second round of the competition is the Semifinal Round. The top twenty nominees for each category were then put up for a vote from November 6th through November 11th. The nominees consisted of the top 15 books by Goodreads user popularity and the top five write-in candidates for each category.
The last round, the Final round, runs from November 13th through November 26th. Users will vote on the top ten nominees for each category, as determined by the Semifinal Round. Winners are to be announced on December 4th.
The 20 voting categories include Fiction, Non-Fiction, Romance, Mystery & Thriller, Young Adult Fiction, Historical Fiction, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Graphic Novels, Poetry and more. Categories can vary year by year. A complete list of previous categories and winners can be found here.
